Introduction to Programming

Learning Outcomes:

  • Define the following terms related to object-oriented programming: objects, encapsulating classes, instantiation, properties, methods, and events with 90% efficiency.

  • Successfully identify and describe the purpose of literals, operators, and functions as shown in the Lesson Lab.

  • Correctly use variables and constants to write programs that perform calculations given the necessary set of criteria.

  • Explain the purpose and general functionality provided by conditional statements, relative operators, and logical operators to the instructors’ 100% satisfaction.

  • Given the parameters, correctly identify the scope of variables within a given program.

This one day course introduces the student to general programming concepts using Visual Basic 6.0.

• Overview of programming
• Object-oriented programming
• Calculations
• Storing Values
• Making Decisions
• Looping
• Making programs modular

Introduction to Programming

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: Describe features and benefits of prevalent programming languages, and describe the phases of software development, including: planning, coding, compiling, linking, and debugging. Define the following terms related to object-oriented programming: objects, encapsulating classes, instantiation, properties, methods, and events. Identify and describe the purpose of literals, operators, and functions. Use variables and constants to write programs that perform calculations. Explain the purpose and general functionality provided by conditional statements, relative operators, and logical operators. Discover the purpose and general functionality provided by Do While and For Next loops. Explain the benefits of dividing large programming tasks into smaller tasks. Identify the scope of variables within a given program.

Class targeted to:
Designed for individuals to provide general programming concepts providing a basis for programming in many different languages.
