Learning Outcomes:

• Using directions from the manual successfully create graphic effects so Bézier paths appear as you want them to.
• Correctly create type effects so that body text and display type enhance the design of a layout with the provided instructions.
• Successfully, create a Type Mask and flow type on a path utilizing the directions in the Activity Lab and under the Instructor’s supervision.
• Given the tools in the Lesson Lab, determine when to use color management and apply so colors match as accurately as possible.

This second level will build on your existing skills to learn some of the more advanced features of QuarkXPress, as well as new techniques that will allow you to improve your workflow.

QuarkXPress 7.x Level 2

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Draw Bézier Paths and combine Bézier shapes. Reshape a picture box. Work with Silhouette Pictures. Apply transparency and drop shadow effects. Apply an Alpha Mask. Create Drop Caps, reverse type with a style sheet, typeset numbers, create a type mask, flow type on a path and create a type shadow. Organize design elements in libraries. Manipulate items within groups. Choose appropriate typefaces and leading so that the densities of text blocks appear as you want. Embed fonts in EPS files. Determine the usage of color management, change image profiles and choose color settings for output. Change type formatting automatically. Create a List and a Book, index documents.

Class targeted to: Designers who know the basics but want to learn how to use QuarkXPress more effectively.

Prerequisites: Windows Introduction or equivalent knowledge, and QuarkXPress 7.x Level 1.
